Aim:

Paddling on a river can be an exciting experience but you need to know how to do it safely.  The river rat lesson is designed to do exactly that, we will give you the skills and knowledge required to get on the river and paddle.   

Lesson Breakdown:

• Understand river conditions including flooding, fast flowing water and entanglement
• Know the correct equipment to wear when paddling
• Understand weather conditions that are suitable for a river paddle
• Learn safety techniques and skills to support you when river paddling

After a safety briefing on land you will launch up stream and paddle a 1km route in open countryside, before turning and coming back again. The whole lesson will last 2hrs.   

Entry Requirements:

• Swim 50 metres (164ft)
• ASI SUP Wise Activ (Enclosed Flat Water) Certificate

Equipment:

The following is required to complete the lesson:

• SUP Clothing suitable for paddling
• Stand Up Paddleboard, paddle, coiled leash, quick release belt, buoyancy aid

The school will provide you with the Stand Up Paddleboard, paddle, leash, quick release belt and buoyancy aid.
